Trip to Seward, Alaska

Yesterday was a lovely day for a trip to Seward. My Mom and I drove through clouds and mist until just before we got to Seward and then the clouds opened up and there was blue sky and the lovely sunshine. It was slightly hazy near the mountains, but other than that, it was a cloudless sky over Seward.

After eating a yummy lunch at Apollos, we ventured down to the waterfront and snapped a few shots. No trip to Seward is complete without a visit to the Sea Life Center. Unfortunately, the seals and sea lion tanks were being renovated, so we were unable to see them. The bird area is my favorite, we had a little duck that just hung out on the edge with us..not a bit scared. I love the puffins even with their less brilliant winter colors. The Sea Life Center is a great visit when in Seward - $15 for adults and I believe $12 for children.

We made a quick stop at the Jesse Lee Home, rather what's left of it. I hate to see historical buildings go into disrepair. The structure is cement, so if they just replaced the windows, fixed the doors and roof and repainted, it would make the place so much nicer. When it was first built, it was up on the top of the hill with I am sure a wonderful view, now it is caged off with chain link fence and surrounded by multi-family homes. It is sad that Alaska does not embrace the history, rather hopes it will just fall back into the ground.

On the way home we drove back through the mist and only saw a couple of swans and nothing else really. The sun was almost set when we got to Bridge Access Road but I was determined to get the silhouette of Redoubt with the setting sun.

Have a wonderful day. It is a beautiful sunny day in Kenai.
