Hello from Winchester, Oregon

It has been a few days since I have blogged and I apologize.

We hung out in Bend for a couple of days just getting things organized, doing laundry, getting Chelsea a bath.

We took Chelsea to a dog park. Come to find out, Bend is the most pet friendly city in America according to a pet magazine. They have seven dog parks, a few stores that allow dogs, several pet supply stores, lots of vets and groomers. We went to a groomer that was right next to the RV Park and she was wonderful. We got Chelsea all clean and her nails clipped for only $25.

On Sunday, November 4th, we drove to Crater Lake. It is an amazing lake. Unfortunately, it snowed in October and I guess they shut down the rim road once there is a snowfall. We didn't see any snow but it was closed anyway. We hiked around for a couple of hours and enjoyed the spectacular day...sunny and warm without a cloud in the sky. It was a bit hazy, but it was lovely.

On Tuesday, we drove from Bend to Winchester Bay. We went to a really cool area next to the Mckenzie River that was full of moss, fog and sunlight. I could have stayed there all day.

Further on down the road, I saw my first covered bridge, so of course we had to turn around so I could get a few photos. Unfortunately, they were working on the bridge, so we were not able to drive through it.

As we were headed through the valley enroute to Winchester Bay, we hit fog. It was misty rolling fog, so it was easy to navigate through. We stopped so I could get a picture of the fog with the sunset.

We arrived at Winchester Bay in the dark and fog and I am happy that James called ahead to verify that the RV Park had some openings. You would think that with it being the winter, that we would be able to have our pick of spaces, in most cases we have found that not to be true. There is a large percentage of people who live at the RV Parks, get their mail at the park and so lots of the parks are almost full. Thankfully, the Winchester Bay RV Park was not full and it has been a great place to stay. The laundry room is awesome and they have a change machine (which I think every laundry room should have). Clean showers and bathrooms and friendly staff. We have full hookups right on the water, cable and wi-fi. The wi-fi is crappy and not very fast, but still it's free.

Yesterday we headed to North Bend, Coos Bay and Charleston. The fog was low as we drove there but when we got to Coos Bay, the fog was starting to lift. It is an interesting area. North Bend and Coos Bay are pretty much the same place. As you head there from Winchester Bay, you drive over the Coos Bay Bridge which is very gothic and cool looking. As you head into North Bend, there is a welcome sign and then the huge Casino. After the Casino, there is a factory that makes woodchips and the smell of Cedar is in the air. The front of the town has the typical waterfront boat places and warehouses as well as some neat boats. Then you have the railroad tracks and then you have the highway. You then get into the businesses and as you head up the hill, you get to city center. After that, you have houses upon houses upon houses with some little parks in between. It was pretty in some areas and run down in others. We did find a wonderful park. We took a walk down the Coos Bay Boardwalk, the sun was wonderful and we saw several sea birds as well as pelicans flying about.

After Coos Bay, we went onward to the quaint little fishing town of Charleston. After driving through the town we were headed out by the canneries and I saw my first wild pelican close up. It was sitting on the roof of the cannery, waiting for a handout or dropped fish. It was very cool and he didn't seem to be scared of me, rather, he acted like a dog waiting for a bone.

Heading back, we went through more fog and I attempted to take a few shots of the Coos Bay Bridge.

Today, we decided to be beach bums. We awoke to sunshine and warmth and drove the two minutes to the beach. It was so nice out. James went fully in, I went in up to my thighs. Chelsea loved playing in the surf, chasing her tennis ball and a stick. However, she drank too much sea water, so I think she ended up with a stomach ache. She decided that she had enough of the water and went and laid down on the beach with her stick. It was so very pretty and it got up to 72 degrees, but there was a breeze, so after getting wet and then laying on the beach, I got chilled. After coming back to the trailer, having a hot shower and getting changed, we headed down to the beach again to get some sunset shots. On the way there, we spotted some Pelican right next to the RV Park on the docks in the Harbor. It was awesome to see them so close up.

As I was going through my photos tonight, I realized that there was a seal in the water in some of the photos...very cool.

Tomorrow we plan to head a little North so I can see the sea lion caves in Florence. Here's hoping for more lovely weather.

Until Next Time, Stay Safe...

Rebecca
