Saying goodbye to Cascade Locks

Yesterday we had fun in the rain.

The day started out much like it has the past week with clouds and rain. We took Chelsea down to the park to get some of her energy out. When we were pulling in, we passed a really neat Cougar statue and I had James stop so I could take a picture. For some reason, Chelsea got it into her head that it was real, her hackles came up, she started growling and barking. We let her out so she could check it out and she walked around it barking but keeping a safe distance...it was too funny.

By the parking lot, there were two more statues, one of Sacagawea and the other of Seaman (Lewis' dog). Chelsea checked out Seaman, but wrote him off as being ok. I was amazed at the detail of the statues, they were very realistic.

Near the park, there was the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler parked near the visitors center. It was way too yucky out for us, so we did not take a ride. It was really pretty though.

After the park, we went to the Bonneville Dam and Locks. It was a very interesting place and we got to see a few videos about the dam and how it works. We saw salmon swimming in the fish ladder from the downstairs viewing station. To make it even better, it was free.

After the dam, we headed on down the road to see the waterfalls. We stopped at Horsetail Falls first so I could get some photos and then headed to Multnomah Falls. The Multnomah Falls are very impressive at 620 feet high. It was raining pretty hard, so we didn't go up the trails. Whoever said Oregon was beautiful never went in October. It is beautiful, but oh so rainy.

Today we are packing up the trailer and headed down to Bend, Oregon in hopes of finding some sunshine.

Until next time, stay safe...
